چکیده
This contribution introduces a multiscale fracture model that aims to take the microstructural length scale effects into account in brittle failure. is formulated framework of Cosserat continuum theory and coupled with phase field approach failure describe complex crack paths. The effectiveness proposed method demonstrated using two cases: shear propagation problem interaction problem. first benchmark reveal synergistic aspect between kinematic parameters related energy distribution. shows importance on resulting macroscopic path. An application case then highlight consequences terms coalescence kinetics.

Modeling of crack propagation by a finite element method under mixed mode conditions is of prime importance in the fracture mechanics. This article describes an application of finite element method to the analysis of mixed mode crack growth in linear elastic fracture mechanics. Crack - growth process is simulated by an incremental crack-extension analysis based on the maximum principal stress c...
متن کاملEffect of Crack Blunting on Subsequent Crack Propagation
Theories of toughness of materials depend on an understanding of the characteristic instabilities of the crack tip, and their possible interactions. In this paper we examine the effect of dislocation emission on subsequent cleavage of a crack and on further dislocation emission. The work is an extension of the previously published Lattice Greens Function methodology[1, 2, 3]. We have developed ...

متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of Stress Concentration around a Blunt Crack in a Cosserat Elastic Solid
The problem of a blunt edge notch of elliptic contour in a strip of Cosserat (micropolar) elastic material under tension has been analyzed via two-dimensional (plane stress) finite element analysis. Both 3-node constant strain triangular elements and 4-node isoparametric elements were used. Three cases were explored: Cosserat characteristic length much less than the crack root radius, equal to ...
